Playing at the Park

This is our house:

And this is the park two doors down:

This park is full of graffiti walls, broken playground equipment, trash, shattered glass, homeless men, stray dogs, kissing couples and pot-smoking skateboarders....

and it's one of my kids favorite places in Costa Rica.

We go to "Parque Copa" every day that it's not raining. They have played and played and played at this park and we have so many memories hanging out with friends over there. Since it doesn't have anything fancy, they have been able to use their imaginations like little kids should. They've played "grounders" a million times, played on tree roots, made up games, ridden scooters everywhere, learned how to see-saw, become experts at the monkey bars, played soccer and baseball, and their favorite...climbed trees.

This park has allowed my kids to just play. And I love that.

We will miss it terribly.

  1. just goes to prove it's not what's at the park, it is WHO is at the park. Friends make all the difference, and you will be sincerely missed. Funny thing, as they boys were discussing with a friend from out of town, "what stuff should we bring to the park?" Nate summed it all up with, "actually we don't need anything, this park has really great sticks." Now that is a BOY for you. Simple living, pura vida.
